How to Clean an EGR Valve on a Ford F150

Your Ford F150 is equipped with a special valve called the "exhaust gas recirculation valve," or the EGR valve. The EGR valve plays a very important role in the proper operation of your vehicle's frazzle system. The valve directs exhaust into the intake manifold, where the exhaust is cooled. This procedure is crucial to the life of your vehicle, as it prevents the engine and other components from overheating and becoming damaged. Over time, the valve will get dingy and clogged, then information technology is important to make clean the EGR valve to ensure it operates properly.

Footstep 1

Ensure the Ford F150 is set in "Park" on a level surface. Leave the vehicle to sit down and cool for a half hour.

Step 2

Open up the hood of the F150 and locate the frazzle gas recirculation valve. Look for the valve on the engine intake manifold; the valve is a small-scale, circular, metallic component.

Loosen the bolts that secure the valve in identify, using a socket wrench. One time all bolts are loose enough, remove them and identify them to the side. Remove the valve from the manifold; this may require a bit of force due to carbon buildup.
